Biography

"A Passionate Performer"

Marquis is known for his warm sound and virtuosic vibrato. He's uniquely gifted in his ability to transcend the notes on the page, captivating his audience with every note that sings from his trombone.

"As more recordings are released and new generations of prodigies emerge, classical music has become increasingly concerned with the pursuit of technical perfection, but what is perfection without purpose? Are we to spend our lives competing with recordings? For me, music is therapy. It is a way for me to channel all of my experiences in this world, humbling myself and becoming vulnerable in front of an audience of strangers, transmitting my emotions through the medium of music." ~Marquis Wincher

Marquis received his Bachelor of Music Performance degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. While at the conservatory he received world-renowned training from current and former members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra brass section.

Marquis served three years as the Head Band Director of the Fort Bend Christian Academy in Sugar Land Texas. Currently, he is a Teaching Artist for the Houston Youth Symphony and also serves as a member of the Houston Symphony's Young Associates Council.

In addition to teaching, Marquis has also had the opportunity to perform with several festival orchestras during his summers. Recent festivals have included The Prisma Festival & Academy in Vancouver, BC, Canada as well as The Festival Napa Valley in Napa Valley, California.

As a student Marquis participated in the Chautauqua Institution Festival Orchestra, U.S Army Band's American Trombone Workshop, the Southeast Trombone Symposium, and the Cleveland Trombone Seminar.

"As a music educator I believe it is important to challenge myself and always be a student of music. I am always seeking inspiration that can be passed on to my students." ~Marquis Wincher

In his free time you can find Marquis learning about personal finance, exercising, going for a walk, reading his bible, or working on the next big thing.
